Company drivers 'getting greener'

21 November 2008

Company car drivers are largely willing to take steps to reduce their carbon dioxide emissions and fuel consumption, according to a new survey.

The online poll carried out by Leasedrive Velo revealed that 87 per cent of company car drivers would select their next vehicle with an eye to its carbon dioxide emissions.

Although only one per cent reported driving a hybrid, ten per cent said they would choose a hybrid next time.

"Clearly, company car drivers are more aware than ever before of their green responsibilities and are not only willing to trade down next time to a company car with lower CO2 emissions, but are also prepared to back this up by becoming carbon neutral drivers," the company's commercial director, Roddy Graham, said.

Choosing the lower-emitting model could also save their fleet manager on fuel costs as cars with lower emissions are more fuel efficient as well.

The government recently launched a £100 million scheme to support the electrical car industry. Funds will be used to provide organisations and local authorities with electrical vehicles to trial.
