10 cheap greener cars discovered
The financial downturn has both focused motorists' attention on getting cars with higher fuel efficiency as well as driven down the prices of those vehicles, according to consumer publication Which?.
In its Complete Guide to Greener Driving, the company has revealed that the cost of green motoring has been cut by about £2,000 as companies cut their prices in a bid to attract buyers.
The biggest discount was found on the Fiat Multijet Panda Dynamic, which had its price reduced about £2,500 to £6,471.
Such is the amount of greener cars being produced and the discounts available that the publication drew up a top ten list of cars under £10,000.
Which? editor Richard Headland said: "Many people are put off green cars as they usually think of the Toyota Prius, which costs around £17,000. However, there are some great eco cars which are much cheaper even more so at the moment. We've found some incredible deals for less than ten grand."
As of next year cars which have less than 100 grams per kilometre of carbon dioxide emissions will be exempt from annual tax.
The Panda highlighted for its savings, will not quite qualify for the exemption, but at 114 g/km will fit into Band C and will pay £30 a year in taxes.
